10 MILLION people watched the ESPN special Thursday night in which LEBRON JAMES stuck it to Cleveland by announcing he had signed with the Miami Heat.
--It was the third most-watched show on cable all year, behind the NFL Pro Bowl . . . which attracted 12.3 million viewers . . . and an episode of Nickelodeon's "iCarly" that 11.2 million people tune in to. (???)
-Not surprisingly, a lot the viewers for Thursday night's show were in Cleveland. It's estimated that ONE IN FOUR TV sets that were on Thursday night in the city were watching LeBron.

NBA’s Highest Paid Players This Season Submitted by: Hoop Doctors |
|
Although Tracy McGrady didn't play for a good portion of the year due to injuries he still made the big bucks. Starting out the season with the Houston Rockets and now with the New York Knicks, the franchise is dolling out a huge salary to retain his big name personna. All things considered however, the Knicks are going to get one helluva salary cap relief when his salary comes off the books this summer. Knicks want Lebron in free agency, its simple math. ... NPD: 51% of buyers would rather have netbook over iPad Submitted by: JB |
|
Just over half of younger, prospective iPad buyers would rather have a netbook or notebook than the Apple tablet, the NPD found in a new study. Among 18-to-34 year olds, 51 percent would prefer a conventional portable than the iPad. Owning an existing Apple device also wasn't enough to sway some users as 44 percent still would rather get a computer like the MacBook than the slate design. ... [ More ] |

Earnhardt-inspired Intimidator coaster takes inaugural plunge Submitted by: JB
The Intimidator, befitting the man who inspired it, is the fastest, tallest, and longest roller coaster in the Southeast. The snaking steel beast, more than a mile long and named for the late Dale Earnhardt, is 232 feet high and drops 211 feet in one go. Riders at the Carowinds theme park hit 80 miles per hour in cars made to look like the #3 Chevy Monte Carlo, only with the addition of stadium seating that ensures everyone gets a clear view – something we're pretty sure Dale's NASCAR Chevy didn't have. He’s still Duke’s coach K-apable Submitted by: JB |
|
HOUSTON – He had snipped away at the nets, bear-hugged his players and high-fived all the hands that dangled over the railings after Duke advanced to the Final Four.
Still, as Mike Krzyzewski jogged up the Reliant Stadium tunnel following the Blue Devils’ 78-71 victory over Baylor, it didn’t take him long to realize that something was missing. ... [ More ] |

20 Outrageous Tribute Bands Submitted by: JB |
|
Love them or hate them, tribute bands aren't going anywhere soon. In fact, they seem to be multiplying, as if Guitar Hero and karaoke machines weren't enough to stymie their spread. Here are 20 musical acts that pay homage to another band (or sometimes two bands!) with their punning names and goofy gimmicks. If they don't make you smile, they may make you cringe. ... [ More ] |

Why Jailbreak an iPad? Submitted by: ReadWriteWeb |
|
Noted iPhone hacker George Hotz is teasing the web with a video that displays a new jailbreak for all iPhone and iPod Touch models, and maybe even the iPad, too, he says. This supposedly improved process (there's no code to examine yet) aims to solve a problem that came into play when updated devices like the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3.0 were released. The issue? After performing the jailbreak on these newer devices, if you ever needed to reboot the phone, it had to be connected to your computer and the software that performed the hack would have to be re-run. No more, says Hotz. ... [ More ] |

10 Awesome Sports Nicknames Submitted by: JB
Throughout the 100 plus years of organized professional sports there have been scores of nicknames given to athletes. Monikers like “Magic,” “The Great One” and “Charlie Hustle” are as synonymous with success as the the men who made them famous.
When pondering all the handles associated with the world of sports, it’s easy to note that some are better than others. The “Stilt” was perfect for Wilt Chamberlain, but it also conjures images of a circus. The “Big Unit” carries with it lots of connotations besides Randy Johnson’s tallness, if you know what I mean. Top 10 for '10: What I'm most looking forward to this season Submitted by: Sports Illustrated
You have to start somewhere. The Gregorian new year begins in Kiribati, an island nation in the Pacific Ocean that is the inhabited landmass most near, on the west side, to the international date line. For those of us who measure time by the Doubledayan calendar, the new year begins in Washington on Monday at 1:05 p.m. with a pitch from Nationals left-hander John Lannan, shortly after the ceremonial one from another southpaw, President Barack Obama. Erykah Badu Went to Dealey Plaza, Got Naked, Shot Video. City Hall Distances! Submitted by: JB
Earlier this morning, Pete posted the evidence to DC9: Erykah Badu's "Window Seat" video, the latest informercial for New Amerykah Part Two: The Return of the Ankh, in stores tomorrow. Since its release in the wee small hours Saturday morning, the video -- filmed entirely in Dealey Plaza in one take on March 17 -- has become the subject of much controversy, not only because of where it was shot, but because of Erykah's decision to take it off take it all off (Matt & Kim-style) in front of Grassy Knoll bystanders on her way to the X-marks-the-spot where John Kennedy was shot to death in November '63. Then, in the end, there's a shout-out to The Organization Man himself, as the word "groupthink" spills out onto the asphalt. [ More ] |

Instant impact rookies to watch Submitted by: JB
Increasingly baseball's best prospects start the season in the minor leagues, either to get a little extra seasoning before a call-up or to slow the accumulation of major-league service time, a tactic to delay arbitration eligibility until after their third full season -- and so fans are robbed of seeing players like Nationals starter Stephen Strasburg until at least June. Many of last season's best rookies -- including NL Rookie of the Year Chris Coghlan of the Marlins, the White Sox' Gordon Beckham, the Braves' Tommy Hanson and the Pirates' Andrew McCutchen, among others -- all took a similar path to the majors last season.
