Earnhardt-inspired Intimidator coaster takes inaugural plunge
JB

The Intimidator, befitting the man who inspired it, is the fastest, tallest, and longest roller coaster in the Southeast. The snaking steel beast, more than a mile long and named for the late Dale Earnhardt, is 232 feet high and drops 211 feet in one go. Riders at the Carowinds theme park hit 80 miles per hour in cars made to look like the #3 Chevy Monte Carlo, only with the addition of stadium seating that ensures everyone gets a clear view – something we're pretty sure Dale's NASCAR Chevy didn't have.

Why Jailbreak an iPad?
ReadWriteWeb

Noted iPhone hacker George Hotz is teasing the web with a video that displays a new jailbreak for all iPhone and iPod Touch models, and maybe even the iPad, too, he says. This supposedly improved process (there's no code to examine yet) aims to solve a problem that came into play when updated devices like the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3.0 were released. The issue? After performing the jailbreak on these newer devices, if you ever needed to reboot the phone, it had to be connected to your computer and the software that performed the hack would have to be re-run. No more, says Hotz.

  10 Awesome Sports Nicknames

Throughout the 100 plus years of organized professional sports there have been scores of nicknames given to athletes. Monikers like “Magic,” “The Great One” and “Charlie Hustle” are as synonymous with success as the the men who made them famous.

When pondering all the handles associated with the world of sports, it’s easy to note that some are better than others. The “Stilt” was perfect for Wilt Chamberlain, but it also conjures images of a circus. The “Big Unit” carries with it lots of connotations besides Randy Johnson’s tallness, if you know what I mean.

  Instant impact rookies to watch

Increasingly baseball's best prospects start the season in the minor leagues, either to get a little extra seasoning before a call-up or to slow the accumulation of major-league service time, a tactic to delay arbitration eligibility until after their third full season -- and so fans are robbed of seeing players like Nationals starter Stephen Strasburg until at least June. Many of last season's best rookies -- including NL Rookie of the Year Chris Coghlan of the Marlins, the White Sox' Gordon Beckham, the Braves' Tommy Hanson and the Pirates' Andrew McCutchen, among others -- all took a similar path to the majors last season.
